He's GORGO-riffic!
The first issues of these two titles are reprinted in FANTASTIC GIANTS #1 - Possibly one of the best all-Ditko books you'll ever read.
This was the first book that Steve did after his acrimonious departure from Marvel... a parting of the ways with Stan Lee over "creative differences" regarding certain elements of Spiderman. Just look at these pages below -
Simply amazing!
This 64 page stunner reprints Konga #1 and Gorgo #1 plus 2 short "weirdies" done right after his leaving Marvel! Chip on his shoulder? Could be....
64 pages of Steve Ditko & Joe Gill! This pdf is sooooo big I hadda upload it two parts! Yowza!
Fantastic Giants Part 1
Fantastic Giants Part 2
Gorgo 3
Issue 12 [non-Ditko] features an appearance (guest shot, crossover... hmmm - do monsters "cross-over"?) by "Reptisaurus" (AKA Reptilicus).
Gorgo 12
Steve's back on board with this one... Look Out!
Gorgo 15
Even though Steve Ditko DIDN'T do the artwork on issue 20 it has something great going for it. Pure weirdness.
Lookin' good, Oh Green One!
Gorgo 20
But WAIT! There's MORE!
Gorgo's Revenge
Don't let the cover fool ya, it's pure Ditko inside!
Return of Gorgo 3
Everybody KONGA!
These monster books [Gorgo and Konga] are among the best comics Charlton EVER produced - taking an almost ridiculous format and investing it with more depth than the material deserved.
Konga #4
Konga 5
Konga 8
Konga 9
Another gem by Ditko and Gill as Konga gets shrunk to bite-size....
It's the [incr]edible shrinking Konga!
Konga's Revenge 2
OK, so this isn't by Ditko, but it's still a fun book. Interiors by Montes and Mastroserio, cover by Giordano, script by Joe Gill (I would assume).
Konga's Revenge 3
Some of these are re-posts, but a few are here for the first time. 13 monster books from your old pal, "Hyper" Dave. Share and enjoy!
Coming next... a BIG surprise for all you Charlton fans!
Stay tuned!
Ahhhhh....I love me some giant monsters!
ReplyDeleteJust out of curiosity Hyperdave, do you have any idea if there is a relationship other than in name between the Konga that appears in these comics and the Konga that appears in the 1961 film called (surprisingly enough) Konga? A quick internet check suggests that the Konga comic series ended in 1965 with issue 23, so the timing might be right--or it could be one of those names that just got around. The film was a British production, I believe.
Anyway, the film itself is one of those so-bad it's good monster movies: what might be the best bit is the lecherous scientist played by Michael Gough--Alfred in the Burton Batman films--pawing his very own teacher's pet in his greenhouse of deadly carnivorous house plants!
Well, enough of that! Thanks again!
