The HORROR of it ALL - Now in Spook-a-phonic sound!

Well, I hate to say it, but you are a predictable lot. Horror comics, horror comics, horror comics.... that's ALL I hear. OK then, if it's horror comics you want, then horror comics you shall have.

First out of the gate, is the OTHER "Tales from the Crypt" from Myron Fass' Eerie Publications. For some strange reason, old Bill "E.C." Gaines was none too pleased with this one, so this is the one and only issue bearing this title. Nice try Myron. Pre-Code reprints of stories "Skeleton In The Closet","Experiment In Terror","Blood and Old Bones", "Forever Dead","Thief of Souls" & "The Beautiful and The Dumb" (both omitted from the Contents page!?!) and "Horror Harbor". All this in the new cbz format no less!

Tales from Myron's Crypt

Now, for those of you who have been asking and asking and asking for me to re-post some of my greatest Charlton hits... OK! Enough is too much.
Here's two for now, more later (re-posts are such a drag, man).

Creepy Things 6 has "Vampire of Hanover" with art AND story by Pat Boyette. Cover & cute 1-pager "Turned-Off"by Mike Zeck and the hirsute cover story "The Hairy One" by Tom Sutton.

Creepy Things #6

Ghostly Tales 99 starts out with cover and story "Here Comes The Bride" by "Sturdy" Steve Ditko, plus two tales by Wayne Howard - "The Statue" a nifty 1-pager, and also the very droll "Meeting of The Damned".

Ghostly Tales #99

Now what's this Spook-a-phonic sound thing all about? It's simple - here's a whole bunch of classic "Spookshow" radio ads, plus one for "Monsters A-Go-Go", and six great ads for one of my favorite SF films of the 70's, "Zardoz". Put 'em in the music player of your choice and listen to the scary sounds while you read the spooky comics! Neat-o!
Get 'em here!

OK... I gotta go - I'm starting to creep myself out here!

PS. Download link for Capt. 3D works fine for me...

TV Time!

I know there's some great pun or fabulous observation or some kind of "Days of Future Past (or Passed)" thing lurking in here, but it's been a long day and i'm just too pooped to see it.
Suffice it to say that these are two really good comics, with great art and interesting stories. Korg has story and art by the under-rated Pat Boyette, while Nicola Cuti and John Byrne do a swell job with the Gerry Anderson adaption.
Many people seem to have a low opinion of Charlton Comics, but these two books are pretty darn enjoyable (in my humble opinion). Read 'em and see!

Semper Fi and all that jazz.....

Fightin' Marines 108

Fightin' Marines 113

Fightin' Marines 114

Fightin' Marines 116

Fightin' Marines 118

War from the "Big C" - with excellent art by the usual suspects, Pat Boyette, Tom Sutton (cover to #116), what looks like an inking job by Wayne Howard, and surpisingly, a cover by Marvel Comics stalwart Dan Adkins (for #118).
Enjoy - just don't forget to keep your head down!

And in the interest of equal time ("The Great Debate" and such) here's a bunch 'o' longhairs with another viewpont!

Tom Lehrer - Send the Marines

When someone makes a move
Of which we don't approve,
Who is it that always intervenes?
U.N. and O.A.S.,
They have their place, I guess,
But first send the Marines!

We'll send them all we've got,
John Wayne and Randolph Scott,
Remember those exciting fighting scenes?
To the shores of Tripoli,
But not to Mississippoli,

What do we do? We send the Marines!
For might makes right,
And till they've seen the light,
They've got to be protected,
All their rights respected,
'Till somebody we like can be elected.

Members of the corps
All hate the thought of war,
They'd rather kill them off by peaceful means.
Stop calling it aggression,
O we hate that expression.
We only want the world to know
That we support the status quo.
They love us everywhere we go,
So when in doubt,
Send the Marines!

Elvis Costello - Oliver's Army

Don't start me talking
I could talk all night
My mind goes sleepwalking
While I'm putting the world to right
Called careers information
Have you got yourself an occupation

Oliver's army is here to stay
Oliver's army are on their way
And I would rather be anywhere else
But here today

There was a checkpoint charlie
He didn't crack a smile
But it's no laughing party
When you've been on the murder mile
Only takes one itchy trigger
One more widow, one less white nigger

Oliver's army is here to stay
Oliver's army are on their way
And I would rather be anywhere else
But here today

Hong Kong is up for grabs
London is full of arabas
We could be in palestine
Overrun by a chinese line
With the boys from the mersey and the thames and the tyne
But there's no danger
It's a professional career
Though it could be arranged
With just a word in Mr. Churchill's ear
If you're out of luck you're out of work
We could send you to johannesburg

Oliver's army is here to stay
Oliver's army are on their way
And I would rather be anywhere else
But here today

And I would rather be anywhere else
But here today
And I would rather be anywhere else
But here today

Midnight Oil - U. S. Forces

U. S. Forces give the nod
It's a setback for your country
Bombs and trenches all in rows
Bombs and threats still ask for more

Divided world the C. I. A.
Who controls the issue?
You leave us with no time to talk
You can write your own assessment

Sing me songs of no denying
Seems to me too many trying
Waiting for the next big thing

Will you know it when you see it
High risk children dogs of war
Now market movements call the shots
Business deals in parking lots
Waiting for the meat of tomorrow

Everyone is too stoned to start emission
People too scared to go to prison
We're unable to make decisions
Political party line don't cross that floor
L. Ron Hubbard can't save your life
Superboy takes a plutonium wife
In the shadows of Ban the Bomb we live

Sing me songs of no denying
Seems to me too many trying
Waiting for the next big thing

¡Viva La Difference Del Charlton!

Hey cats and kittens, once again it's your old pal Hyper Dave with more stinky old comic books (in the new improved electrical-type format). As usual, i'm pressed for time, so let's get cracking!

This Ditko weirdy was featured as a back up in E-Man...
Think Mr. A on nitrous oxide and you've got it!

Flogging the old Charlton Horror re-post... again!

While I finish up a few of my comprehensive "monster-size" posts (similar to the THUNDER agents two-parter that almost broke my back last October) here's some repost-o-rama.

First ish of this shortlived title, hosted by Mortimer Tishin.... Mort Tishin... get it? I guess Nicola Cuti was hanging out with Joe Gill that day. I wanted to include the Fred Himes story from this issue but my copy is missing a page - oh well....
BEYOND THE GRAVE #1

Haunted #11 has the excellent Gothic tale By Steve Ditko, "Bride in Darkness"...
HAUNTED #11

Haunted #12 features "Eternal Love" by Stevey the D once more cranking it out on tha "Gothic Romance" tip again, plus "The Egg" by Joe Staton.
HAUNTED #12

MONSTER HUNTERS #3!

MONSTER HUNTERS #8

MONSTER HUNTERS #10

SCARY TALES #3

And to finish up, dig that Tom Sutton cover... and the second story, "The Eyes of the Beholders" is by him also. The swamp monster tale, "Fear Feeder" seems to be signed "Carlos Villa" and is also a nice job, but the stand-out story has to be "Sanctuary" by Joes Staton & Gill. Sweet stuff!

That MAN from D.I.T.K.O.

First up, two EARLY Pre-Code tales drawn by a very, very young Steve Ditko in the 1950's, both reprinted in the 1970's (in black and white), scanned by me a while back, downloaded by you in a minute or so, and hopefully read and enjoyed by you and your loved ones in the days, months, years...... nay, even decades to come! Ah, the circle of life in all it's fullness here at the ultra-holistic ashram of the bizarre that is datajunkie H.Q.
We cover the fads with NONE of the ads!

Anyhow, here's "Stretching Things"

...and "Hair-Yee"!

Here's a quartet of shorts from various Charlton titles from the early 60's that I think you'll also enjoy. "Confederate Girl" and "Believe No Evil" are a bit goofy, but "The Vanishing Men" is the equal to any of his Atlas work from the same period, and "Devil in the Storm" is just excellent.

"Ealy 60's Ditko"

After leaving Marvel, Steve returned to Charlton in the late 60's where he did many interesting stories that haven't seen the light of day... until NOW!
"Curse of Husfat", "The Mouse Tower", "Great Ceasar's Ghost", "The Stone Lovers" (with Boyette inks!) and many more.
